For those who are considering importing coffee beans, here is an explanation of how to import them.
( This is for foreigners residing in Japan.)
The import method varies depending on whether you are importing green beans or roasted beans.
1.How to import green-raw beans
✍Application for Notification of Importation of Food, etc. (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare) is required.
❑Required Documents
- Raw material list : to be prepared by the local manufacturing plant.
- Manufacturing process chart : To be prepared by the local manufacturing plant.
※The manufacturing process chart and raw material chart may be prepared by the importer based on the information provided by the local factory.
In the event of document revisions, it may be smoother for the importer to prepare the documents themselves, rather than asking the local factory to revise them.
❑Application
Prepare a Notification of Importation of Food, etc. based on the list of raw materials and manufacturing process list, and apply to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
If the application passes the inspection, Certificate of inspection for Importation of Foods, etc. will be issued.
✍Plant Quarantine Inspection (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) is required.
❑Required Documents
- PACKING LIST
- (PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATE *Not required at present.)
❑Plant Quarantine Inspection
Prepare an application form for phytosanitary inspection based on the PACKING LIST, etc.
If no pests are found, a Certificate of acceptance of plant inspection will be issued.
※If pests are found and the plants are rejected, a Certificate of Acceptance will be issued after fumigation.
✍Import customs declaration (customs).
❑Required documents
- INVOICE、PACKING LIST
- Certificate of Origin (FORM A) *In case of preferential treatment, as required
- Certificate of Specified Place of Origin *In case of EPA application, as required
❏HS Code ( Hermonized Commodity Description Coding ) Common whole world
- With caffeine : 0901.11-000
- Without caffeine : 0901.12-000
❑Customs duty
- Basically FREE (regardless of whether caffeine is excluded or not)
- WTO Agreement FREE
❑Declaration to customs
Declare with the Certificate of inspection for Importation of Foods, etc.and Certificate of acceptance of plant inspection. from the Plant Quarantine Inspection.
After the inspection is completed and the import consumption tax is paid, the import permit is issued and the cargo can be released and can be picked up.
After the import license is granted, the cargo is loaded onto a truck and delivered to the customer’s designated location.
2.How to import roasted beans
